Hap Erstein with PalmBeachArtsPaper.com catches up on "Gravity" and tells us about some new releases, including one especially for fans of the Beatles.
"12 Years a Slave" - The true story about a free black man who gets sold into slavery.
"Gravity" - You may also call this one "Clooney and Bullock in Space". Hap really likes this one.
"The Counselor" - Hap says this movie proves that a huge cast doesn't always make for a good film. Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz star in a film about a successful lawyer who dabbles in the drug trade.
"Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa" - An 8 year old boy and his grandfather travel the country performing hidden camera tricks and stunts. Johnny Knoxville also stars.
Hap's Art House Pick of the Week
"Good Ol' Freda" - Freda Kelly was asked to become the secretary for a group trying to make it big in Liverpool, England. Their name was The Beatles. For the first time, she opens up in a documentary that Beatles fans should love.
You can enjoy a night out with your familiy at Chili's, with the good feeling that you're helping out a local hero.
You may have heard the story about Angel Soto, the father of four who rushed to the aid of a man who had been involved in a car crash almost one year ago and lost his leg in the process.
As Angel was pulling the man out of a pickup truck along Old Boynton Road on October 29, 2012, a Porsche rushed by, pinning the good samaritan to the truck and ultimately costing him his right leg.
The Traffic Safety Committee of the Palm Beaches gave Angel a Hero Award earlier this year and now they want to help him pay for medical expenses.
Soto is waiting for Social Security benefits to kick in and dealing with costs that go above and beyond what insurance will pay. He also lost his job as a security guard, yet still says all of this is worth it, because he helped to save a life.
Now to dinner:
Visit one of three Chili's locations in Palm Beach County and show a printed flyer to your server. Ten percent of your check will be given to Angel Soto, but this is going on from 4pm to 10pm on Thursday only.
Here are the three locations where this event is going on:
Chili’s Jupiter, 65 US 1 North, Jupiter FL (NE corner of Indiantown and US 1)
Chili’s Palm Beach Gardens, 3805 Fairchild Avenue, Palm Beach Gardens, FL (Legacy Place)
Chili’s Boynton Beach, 2202 N. Congress Avenue, Boynton Beach FL

Hap Erstein with PalmBeachArtsPaper.com is back from his whirlwind three week trip to France. We're happy he enjoyed himself, but missed his input at the theaters. Good thing it's been pretty slow at the box office. It's now starting to pick up and Hap gives us his take on two new films opening the weekend beginning Friday and he tells us about a South Florida film festival.
"Carrie" - This is a remake of a film from the 1970s about a teenager with telekinetic powers who uses those powers to exact revenge from the classmates that make fun of her. Chloe Grace Moretz plays the title character ( the one made famous by Sissy Spacek) and Julianne Moore is her mother in this film. Hap says it's very much like the original film, but filmmakers can do so much more with special effects these days.
"The Fifth Estate" - The Julian Assange story brought to life on the big screen. It's a look at the early days of WikiLeaks.
"Escape Plan" - It's billed as an "action-thriller", starring Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Hap's Art House Pick of the Week
The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival - As Hap says, why give us one pick, when he can give us nearly 200 of them. Films will be playing throughout Broward County, if you don't mind the drive. The Film Festival gets underway on Friday and runs through November 11.
