The study was conducted by The Journal of the American Medical Association and is particularly noteworthy, since heart attacks are the number-one killer of woman because often the signs go unnoticed. The study of more than a million patients hospitalized after suffering heart attacks revealed that women were more likely than men to have a heart attack without experiencing the chest pain. The study also found that women have a higher mortality rate than men suffering heart attacks, and the margin is even greater for women under age 55 who didn't experience chest pain.
