Everything You've Always Wanted to Know...

First of all......I am honored to have been named "Best Wedding DJ in the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast" through the WPBF Channel 25 A-List !

KOOL !  Thanks so much for your votes and support and if you ever need a DJ - Host - Master of Ceremonies for your next party or event, don't hesitate to contact me......

Born and Raised:

Exeter, NH

Currently reside: West Palm Beach

Professional: I keep myself busy with (not one, but....) 2 jobs !!   Afternoon guy on KOOL 105.5 FM.   South Florida radio veteran since 1986 when I was on the predecessor to KOOL 105.5 (Oldies 94.3).  I did take  a 5 year hiatus from Florida, but came running back when I woke up one morning in 1997 to 30 inches of new-fallen snow !!

I have also been a Mobile DJ/Host/Emcee (specializing in weddings and adult parties like birthdays, anniversaries and corporate events) for 3 decades !

This is my 2nd "tour of duty" on KOOL having done mornings from 1998 - 2003 and then weekend mornings after that.    In the interim I was with our sister station CLASSY 92.1 FM for the better part of the last 3 years.

Personal: Married to my best friend Stacie since 2001, 3 cool kids - Tyler (age 15), Zak (age 7) and my 'princess', Alexa (3)

Hobbies: Working out and trying to keep that boyish figure.  It gets harder with each passing year, however.   (Were'nt these same weights a bit lighter 20 years ago?)  Photography, playing kids games with the boys, holding hands with my wife, martial arts.

Favorite Music Artists: Chicago, Earth Wind and Fire, Tower of Power, Elton John, Billy Joel

Favorite Sports Teams: Being from New England I am a devoted Patriots and Red Sox fan (2004 was a VERY good year....and 2007 was good until Feb 3rd, 2008 - SuperBowl Sunday.......)  I have also grown to like the Dolphins and the Marlins since living in South Florida, too.

Favorite TV Shows: I have to admit it....I am a reality show junkie.  Survivor, American Idol, Last Comic Standing, America's Got Talent, Big Brother and the Apprentice will keep my attention.  I also like Professional Wrestling and Desperate Housewives.  Eclectic, you say???!!!

Favorite Getaways: New England.  Returning to your "roots" is always cleansing and keeps you grounded.  I also like the west coast of Florida (my wife's family is over there - yes, I actually like my Mother-in-Law...) and my living room.  I escape to these places often.

Professional Influences:  When growing up, I used to listen to a hometown radio station with an afternoon guy whose name was (and still is) "Duncan Dewar".  I thought he sounded so cool and I wanted to do what he was doing for a living.  I am touch with Duncan to this day.

Philosophy:   Character is doing the right thing even when nobody is looking.

SIDELINES:  As I mentioned, I am a professional Mobile Disc Jockey celebrating my 32nd  year in the business !!  (I obviously started out as a child.....) These days I specialize in weddings and corporate events, but also love the occassional adult birthday party, anniversary or backyard cookout.  Call me if you need a personable guy with a great sound system and all the right music for your next event !!  Visit my ebsite any time you're bored at www.skipkelly.com.......

7 FOOD THAT SUPRESS YOUR APPETITE
Tuesday 06-16-2009 1:32pm ET

Want to lose weight for the summer?

More people worry about getting in shape NOW than any other time of year.  Hitting the gym can help get you ready for beach season, but you won't get
REAL results unless you control your diet.  Here are seven appetite-suppressing foods that help you eat less . . .

#1.)  APPLES.  One large apple has FIVE GRAMS of fiber, which makes you feel fuller, longer.  And apples don't make your blood sugar level spike the way carbohydrates do.  When your blood sugar spikes, it eventually crashes, and you have to eat again.

#2.)  CAFFEINE.  Most people drink caffeine to wake up, but it also suppresses your appetite.  A small cup of coffee every few hours tends to keep people from snacking in between meals.

-Just be careful HOW you get your coffee.  Most Starbucks drinks are LOADED with calories and fat.

#3.)  WATER.  People often mistake HUNGER for THIRST.  When you're dehydrated, it can make you feel tired, and when you're tired, your brain automatically releases a hormone that tells you to eat . . . even though you don't really need to.

#4.)  WASABI.  Spicy foods in general are good appetite suppressants.  But WASABI . . . that spicy green stuff you get with sushi . . . is especially good.  It makes you feel less hungry, AND it's been shown to lower your risk of cancer.

#5.)  OATMEAL.  A bowl of unsweetened oatmeal in the morning will curb your late-morning cravings.  Oatmeal contains more fiber than most cereal, and it's low in sugar, which means your blood-sugar won't spike, then crash.

#6.)  SALMON.  Salmon is a good appetite suppressant because it has a lot of healthy fat.  And that good fat will keep you feeling full and satisfied a lot longer than carbohydrates will.

#7.)  ALMONDS.  They ALSO have a lot of healthy fat, and they're easy to snack on between meals . . . Just don't eat too many.  Nuts are good appetite suppressants, but it takes about 30 minutes before they make you feel full.

--So make sure you eat them BEFORE you start feeling too hungry.  If you're famished and you reach for some almonds, you'll either eat WAY too many, or you'll end up eating something else too

If you want to save money on your next family vacation, listen up!
Saturday 03-08-2008 8:50am ET

A recent study found that 55 percent of travelers don’t stick to their budget while they’re away. Don’t let that be you! Here’s how to keep from breaking your vacation bank:

If you’d like discounts at theme parks, check out eBay and do a search for "theme park tickets." You’ll find all kinds of two-for-one deals, family packs, and discounts for theme parks everywhere.

If you plan to hit a few National Parks, like Yosemite, Yellowstone, and the Grand Canyon, those 3 entry fees alone will cost you $60 bucks. So, get a Parks Pass at "NationalParks.org". For $50 bucks, your whole family can get into any national park in the U.S. free for a whole year!

If you’re going to a major city, like New York, Chicago, or Hollywood, try "CityPass.com". A pass can save you up to 50 percent when you visit several tourist attractions in the area.

And one final trick for saving money on your next "vay-kay": When you’re looking for souvenirs, avoid the gift shops, and hit the local Costco or Wal-Mart. According to travel expert Pauline Frommer, superstores carry the same T-shirts and postcards minus the tourist price-hikes.
